Raised in Florida, Tara is a self-taught documentary and fine arts photographer and artist.  Influenced by her former career in environmental conservation, Tara’s work explores our connection to the natural world and the ways in which we create a sense of place through our intimacy with landscapes and seascapes.

Using alternative photographic processes like pinhole film images and Polaroid images, Tara creates prints, and unique mixed media works with an acrylic transfer process that experiments with scale and texture.  The transfer process is imperfect, resulting in images that are distressed and aged, echoing the impermanence of place.

“As our wild places are diminished, a piece of us disappears too.  I hope, in some small way, my work reminds us of why we are holding on.”

Tara lives with her son Griffin in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and works as an independent photographer and writer.  She is currently working on a series called “Artifacts of Faith,” a narrative about the journey we take, both individually and as part of a community, to find our connection to spirit and place.
